On April 29, Forest was two points from third place and a lot in the race for the Champions League.
This is the date on which Marinakis has ceased to be a person of control at the club, according to Companies House, the government organization which holds the register of companies in the United Kingdom.
“The cessation of Evangelos Marinakis as a significant control person” was the standard declaration and Curt on companies to signify the end of their position at NF Football Investments Limited, the vehicle owner of the City Ground Club.
It was accompanied by a document of a page which had been authorized and electronically deposited.
The reason? Marinakis also controls the Greek team Olympiakos, which was also to be in the Champions League.
UEFA governs state clubs under the same property cannot compete in the same European competition.
Consequently, Marinakis had, at least, not to be listed as a person with significant control of the forest.
At the time, a club source said that the BBC Marinakis remained the owner and was still attached to the Premier League team.
If the forest fails to qualify for the Champions League, Marinakis could become a “control person” again.
Indeed, he continued to speak in Nuno after a 2-2 draw on May 11 against Leicester turned out to be expensive to play in the Europe Elite Club competition.
Forest finally finished seventh and qualified for the UEFA conference League, although they were finally promoted to the Europa League (more about it shortly).
Olympiakos entered the Champions League when they finished seven clear points at the top of the Greek super league.
As there was no conflict in the eyes of UEFA, Marinakis could again be listed as the owner of the two clubs.
On June 12, there was another update of Companies House, which said: “Notification of Evangelos Marinakis as a significant control person on June 6, 2025”.
The accompanying document said that “the person holds, directly or indirectly, 75% or more of the company’s shares”.
