Serena Williams suffered a physical transformation after her tennis retirement. Frequent visitors to her Instagram page were well aware of this fact before Thursday, when the tennis legend revealed that she had lost more than 30 pounds after taking weight loss.
Williams, 43, said during an appearance in today’s show that she lost 31 pounds after using a GLP-1. Williams did not reveal which GLP-1 she was taking, although it was noted that she is a paid spokesperson for RO, a health care company.

Williams said that his first daughter’s birth had played a role in Williams’ decision to take on weight loss medication by today.com.
“It all started after having my (first) kid,” she continues. “As a woman, you go through different cycles of your life. … No matter what I did – running, walking, I walked for hours because they said that it is good, I literally played a professional sport – and I could never go back where I had to be for my health. Then, after my second child, I even became more difficult. So I said to myself, ok, I have to try something different.”
Williams received a lot of attention for her weight loss in July, when she posted photos of her in the gymnasium.
GLP-1s have become a popular weight loss tool in recent years, although some are also used to treat diabetes. Drugs imitate a hormone produced after the body eats, which led patients to feel full more quickly.
After a career of two decades in tennis, Williams retired from sport in 2022. She is widely considered as one of the biggest tennis players of all time and won 23 Grand Slam under her reign at the top.
